Quizzes are informal tests that use your decks to test your understanding of them. More specifically, you can test your ability to recognize a word through text (i.e., read quiz), speech (i.e., listen quiz), and pinyin (i.e., pinyin quiz). Conversely, you can test your ability to reproduce a word via writing (i.e., write quiz) and speech (i.e., say quiz).
Read Quiz
This is one of the most important types of quizzes. You will be tested on your ability to recognize a word in either Chinese characters or its english translation. For instance, you first read the characters and guess the English translation. This is the first step towards reinforcing your long-term understanding of words and phrases.
Write Quiz
This quiz is also just as important. It tests your ability to write the english translation of a word or phrase in Chinese. For instance, if you were given the word "apple" in English, you would have to write 苹果. While the write quiz is more difficult than the read quiz, it is fundamental for deeply understanding a deck.
Listen Quiz
The listen quiz tests your listening comprehension. Audio accompanying a card will play and then you will have to correctly write the characters below. This quiz should be used once you have mastered the listening quiz.
Say Quiz
The say quiz tests your ability to correctly enunciate a word, sentence, or phrase. This quiz is useful once you have mastered the Read, Write, and Pinyin quizzes.
Pinyin Quiz
Here you will test your ability to write the correct pinyin and tones for the respective word. It is especially important that you also test your tones because that knowledge is crucial for distinguishing characters with the same pinyin spelling. For instance, 马 (mǎ, horse) is a different character from 骂 (mà, scold) despite having the same spelling.
Great! Now try testing yourself with the Decks by quizzing yourself with "Read" and "Write". These two types of quizzes are the most important quizzes. To master every text, you cannot skip these two quizzes. Take a screenshot of the results of "Read" and "Write".
Great! Now spend about 10 minutes gaining familiarity with the "Listen", "Say", and "Pinyin" quiz. You will notice that they are also very similar but it is important that you understand how they work as well. Once you're familiar with the other quizzes, move on to the Personal Dictionary!
